AM-TJ-20 is a copper catalyst on alumina carrier with other additive metals such as iron, zinc, silica and manganese etc.

Copper based catalyst used for vegetable oil are the intermediaries in the hydrogenation of fats and oils and it can be said that without the presence of catalysts, the direct hydrogenation of fats and oils is impossible. The function of the catalyst is to change the mechanism of hydrogenation of fats and oils, to reduce the activation energy of the hydrogenation reaction and to accelerate the rate of hydrogenation.

Hydrogenation of oils and fats is a chemical process for the modification of oils and fats, whereby hydrogen is added to the double bond in triglycerides using reductive metals such as nickel and copper as catalysts, resulting in a modified oil called hydrogenated oil. The purpose of hydrogenation of fats and oils:
(1) reduce the degree of unsaturation of fats and oils, increase the melting point and increase the solid fat content;
(2) to improve the stability of fats and oils to oxygen and heat;
(3) to improve the colour, aroma and flavour of fats and oils.

Temperature: 140~180℃.
Pressure: 1 MPa.
Volume ratio of hydrogen and oil: 800:1(excessive hydrogen recycled)
Mass space velocity: 0.5h-1

Application:
Copper based catalysts are widely used in organocatalytic reactions because of their low price, low toxicity and good catalytic activity. Copper has low reactivity for C-C bond hydrogenolysis, but shows good reactivity for C-0 bond hydrogenolysis. Copper can play a good role as a selective catalyst in many reactions, including methanol synthesis catalyst, CO low temperature conversion catalyst, fatty acid ester hydrogenation catalyst, glycerol hydrogenolysis catalyst, nitrobenzene to aniline catalyst and cyclohexanone catalyst for cyclohexanol dehydrogenation. Mainly copper based catalyst used for vegetable oil.
