Magnesium hydroxide is a kind of non-halogen flame retardant, decomposed by heat to produce water, while absorbing heat, decomposition does not contain corrosive and harmful substances, can not only improve the decomposition temperature of the added material, but also will not cause pollution to the environment, can be widely used in the flame retardant and smoke elimination of polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride and unsaturated resin and other polymer materials. The high thermal decomposition temperature of magnesium hydroxide for PVC is good for speeding up the extrusion speed and shortening the molding time.
Flame retardant principle:
Magnesium hydroxide for PVC is a new type of filler flame retardant, through thermal decomposition is the release of bonded water, absorbing a large amount of latent heat, reducing the surface temperature of the filled synthetic materials in the flame, with the effect of cooling the generated combustible gases and inhibit the decomposition of the polymer. The magnesium oxide generated by decomposition is a good refractory material, which can also help to improve the fire resistance of the synthetic material. Also, the water vapor released from magnesium oxide can be used as a smoke suppressant.

Advantages of Magnesium hydroxide for PVC:
1) The decomposition temperature is 100℃ higher than that of aluminum hydroxide, reaching 330℃, which is more helpful to increase the processing temperature of plastics, speed up the extrusion speed and shorten the moulding time.
2) The decomposition energy is high, which helps to absorb the heat of combustion and improve the efficiency of flame retardant.
3) The neutralization ability and acid, can quickly neutralize the acidic gas CO2, SO2, NOX, etc. produced in the process of burning plastic; (IV) the hardness of magnesium hydroxide is high, which helps to absorb the heat of combustion and improve the flame retardant efficiency.
4) The hardness is small, strong smoke suppression ability, the friction to the equipment is small, which is conducive to prolong the service life of production equipment.
