The Mohs hardness of white corundum is 9, second only to diamond. 

The maximum operating temperature is close to 2000 ° C, 

and the Al2O3 content is greater than 99%.

White corundum is made of industrial aluminium powder as raw material.

It is melted and smelted at a high temperature above 2000 ℃ in an electric arc furnace, 

and cooled and crystallized to obtain a white corundum frit.

White corundum and industrial aluminium powder also contain aluminium components, 

so why is it necessary to smelt it?

Because many excellent properties of white corundum come from the α-Al2O3 crystal, 

while the AL2O3 of industrial aluminium powder is only about 98%, 

which not only contains other impurities, but also contains Al2O3 allotropes.

It will obviously reduce various properties of corundum material.

Therefore, it is necessary to remove impurities by smelting, purify the aluminium content, 

and form α-Al2O3 crystals by re-cooling and crystallization.
