Working Principle of Flame Retardant
The effects of flame retardancy are appeared as below:
1) Decalescence effect. Make the temperature of polymer rising difficultly, just like aluminum hydroxide can release hydrone to suppress the temperature then create flame retardancy.
2) Covering effect. Under the condition of high temperature, covering layer can suppress the escape of combustible gas that decomposed by polymer. At the same time, it stop the supply of oxygen and combustion.
3) Dilution effect. Flame retardants release non-flammable gas under combustion situation, such as CO2, NH3, H2O etc to dilute the concentration of combustible gas and oxygen.
4) Inhibiting effect. The combustion of polymer is mainly coused by the chain reaction of free radicals. Some substances can capture the activated interdediates like H, HO, HOO in the combustion reaction, inhibit the chain reaction of free radicals, so that the combustion rate is reduced until the flame goes out.
