Boehmite Lithium Market Outlook

Data from the "China Lithium-ion Battery Separator Industry Development White Paper (2022)", jointly released by research firm EVTank and the Ivey Institute of Economics in conjunction with the China Battery Industry Research Institute, shows that in 2021, China's lithium-ion battery separator shipments will be 8.06 billion square meters, a significant 108.3% year-on-year increase. EVTank believes that as global separator shipments enter to the tens of billions of square meters, and predicts that shipments may exceed 90 billion square meters in 2030. With this, the market demand for diaphragm coating materials is also expanding at an accelerated rate, and the advantages of boehmite as one of the coating material application routes come to the fore.

When boehmite used for lithium diaphragm coating, it has significant advantages over alumina.

Soochow Securities research report recently expected that the application ratio of Boehmite in diaphragm inorganic coating will rise from 55% in 2021 to 70% in 2025, and the proportion of positive side coating will rise from 44% in 2021 to 50% in 2025. Based on the diaphragm coating usage of 142 tons/GWh and the positive side coating of 44 tons/GWh, the global demand for Boehmite is expected to reach 50,400 tons in 2022, an increase of 70%. 2025 global demand for Boehmite will exceed 202,000 tons, with a compound growth rate of 59% from 2022 to 2025, and Boehmite demand will see high growth.
