Construction of refniery project is a huge and long term affair which spend cost and time but bring continuous earning in many years.
There are 4 parts of the total project:
1) Process technnology
2) Project design
3) Plant construction
4) Equipment purchase and fabrication
Actually, China was weak in 20th century and we had to buy process technology, equipments, catalyst etc from western countries because we have no options.
But in 21st century, China refineries are using domestic equipments and catalysts to replace UOP, Axens, Grace Davision, Topsoe, Clariant etc. What's more, the process technology was upgraded step by step and those improvements are developed by own technologies.
Based on above factors, we trust China has strong technology and abilities now but the disadvantage is China has not gained credibility and reputation on global market. It's a long way to go.
However, Western catalyst brands and licensor of refinery and chemical technology had recognized the technology development of China already and that's why they are producing catalyst in China branches even authorize China plants to produce directly.
