Phosphor Industry Information
With the development of white LED lighting tending to be stable, since 2017, LED manufacturers have paid more attention to how to reduce product costs. Among them, there are fewer and fewer new products in phosphors, which are key raw materials for improving the light quality of white LEDs. This is mainly due to the fact that the phosphor market has fallen into the red sea of price wars since 2014. By 2018, the unit price of phosphors has been reduced by 90%, approaching The cost line has led to a sharp decline in industry profits. Phosphor companies lacking core technology almost lose money, and some companies have even been merged or forced to withdraw from the phosphor industry.
At present, the domestic LED phosphor market is mainly occupied by seven companies including Nakamura Yuji, Borui, Hilde, Research Institute, Intematix, MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical), and DENKA (Electrochemical). Nakamura Yuji, composed of its own brand and MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical) joint venture brand, has an absolute advantage in the market for its phosphors with product performance and patented solutions, and Borui has an absolute market share with a lower unit price in terms of nitride red powder for lighting. , Intematix has occupied some major customers at low prices; in terms of high-color gamut backlights, DENKA’s Beta-sialon and KSF (KR-3K01) have performance advantages, high comprehensive cost performance, and continue to expand their market share in China’s backlight market. Many domestic companies are also developing Beta-sialon, but no corresponding products have been launched on the market.
