What kind of magnesium oxide is used in magnesium oxide ceramics

Light magnesium oxide, an inorganic material with high stability and weak volatility at high temperatures, activates the lattice and promotes sintering in order to improve the sintering properties of magnesium materials such as magnesium oxide. The addition of lightweight magnesium oxide to ceramics results in a more significant improvement in the sintering properties and thermal shock resistance of magnesium oxide ceramics, and significantly improves the sintering density and thermal shock resistance of the specimens.

The high coefficient of thermal expansion of magnesium oxide in magnesium oxide ceramics leads to poor thermal shock resistance, which limits the wide application of magnesium oxide ceramics. Research to improve the properties of magnesia ceramics has focused on how to add sintering agents, without which the post-fired blanks are less dense.

Hot press sintering and hot isostatic sintering are commonly used for magnesium oxide ceramics, where atmospheric pressure sintering still has certain drawbacks. Hot pressing sintering helps the powder particles to contact and diffuse by conduction, thus lowering the sintering temperature and shortening the sintering time of magnesium oxide ceramics. The hot isostatic sintering temperature allows the sintering of the ceramic to be completed at a much lower temperature than other sintering methods, which effectively inhibits adverse reactions in magnesium oxide ceramics at high temperatures.
