Present situation of alumina in polishing field

The so-called sintered corundum refers to alumina hydroxide, alumina calcined at high temperature to make it into a kind of alumina phase, known as α-alumina, also known as high temperature alumina.

Alpha alumina as grinding and polishing, more obvious advantage, mohs hardness up to 9, second only to diamond and silicon carbide, is of great help to improve the efficiency of polishing, through phase inversion process control of the original crystal model, crystal face, can achieve both cutting force and the effect of extremely high brightness, not only improve the efficiency, and reduce the polishing process, is the domestic original polishing abrasive materials anyway unattainable, so alpha alumina as polishing abrasive gradually accepted by domestic and foreign customers approval.

   Alumina abrasive surface is fine, hard texture, good wear resistance, corrosion resistance, suitable for a variety of materials surface grinding and polishing processing, the most commonly used on the market is the excellent performance of α-Al2O3 abrasive.

The disadvantage of alumina abrasives is poor dispersion and selectivity, the viscosity of polishing fluid is large, not easy to clean.

And because the hardness of α-Al2O3 abrasive is similar to that of sapphire, it is easy to cause new damage to the workpiece surface in the polishing process.

In recent years, with the development of LED industry, the demand for gem substrate increases, and alumina polishing fluid has a good application prospect in sapphire polishing fluid with its high polishing rate.
