Refining Process - Solvent Deasphalting

Solvent deasphalting is to use extraction method, remove colloid and asphalt from vacuum residuum(or atmoshperic residue) that distilled of crude oil. It is the process of asphalt production while producing asphalt oil.

Under the condition of vaccum distillation, some lubricating oil component which has high viscosity from paraffin base or intermediate base crude oil, can not be gasified but remain in the residue because of high boiling point, then make separation in solvent as the solubility of colloid and asphalt are different.

Normal solvents are including propane, butane, pentane, hexane or the mixture of propane and butane.
